Taiki Tea is a health and lifestyle driven organic matcha tea company, based in East London. Taiki means ‘great vitality’ in Japanese. The name reflects the qualities of our premium organic matcha which provides energy and clarity of thought without the same side effects as coffee.
At Taiki Tea we're creating a fusion of ‘East meets East End’, taking the traditional ceremonial elements of matcha tea and adding more than a smidge of East London's distinctive vibe and energy. We're working with new and emerging talented ceramicists on our matcha bowls to ensure that they equal the quality of our tea whilst also bringing the tea ceremony bang up to date.
We source from the best organic matcha tea farmers in the beautiful region of Uji, Japan. Growing matcha without chemical fertilisers is slow going, so these guys and gals are dedicated Zen warriors on a mission to grow only the best. Whilst some organic matcha is harvested 2 - 4 times per year. Taiki's organic matcha is harvested only once a year, giving the leaves and those amazing matcha nutrients time to develop to their full potential. This also means Taiki matcha is the tastiest organic matcha you'll come across, with a sweet smooth flavour and not a hint of bitterness.
Around 20 - 30 days before harvesting the farmers shade the leaves from the sunlight which turbo-charge the leaves nutrient properties. The leaves are then picked, steamed and dried. After drying, the leaves are then ground with a traditional stone mortar and pestle, called a Hikiusu. This process creates the vivid green Taiki matcha tea powder and that amazing feeling of "great vitality" when it is drunk.

The Taiki sisters, Natasha and Melissa, are the sibling dream team who run an exciting creative partnership. Natasha is a London based lawyer by day, and matcha maestro by night. Melissa is a full time master of matcha, reaching levels of Zen amazing-ness the matcha farmers would be impressed with.
