Baghlava (Persian Baklava) 200g
Made and sold by: Anzali
Country of Origin: Iran
Queen of the Sweets
The origins of this dish are not 100% clear, however it does date back to the Ottoman Empire, with a hint of Persian Empire. What is clear is that many adaptations of this dish have appeared over hundreds of years, most of which use the simple method of using crispy puff pastry. What is unique to this dessert is the aroma of spices and nuts used. It fills the room like a bouquet of fresh cut flowers. This recipe uses a thin pastry specially made for this dish. A little more time consuming, but definitely worth it. One thing is for sure, this pastry is not in any other variations of this classic Middle Eastern dessert.
The city of Yazd is famous for the best Baghlava, but this version tops it! The challenge is to not use "mmmmm" when you bite into every diamond shaped goodness. Enjoyed warm or cold, with a scoop of ice cream, or just on its own.
Often referred to as the Mount Everest of pastry making, because of its complexity of getting the right mix of spices and nuts. If you like a sweet that is packed with flavour, assortment of nuts with a beautiful aroma and a saffron infused toffee syrup, then this is the dessert for you. Make sure you wash your hands before eating, because you will be licking your fingers, a lot.
