This new Chianti Classico came on the scene in 2010. The total area of estate-owned specialised vineyard amounts to some 90 hectares, of which about 65 are registered to Chianti Classico DOCG, while the remaining 25 hectares go to Tuscany IGT wine. The process of replanting the outdated vineyards began in 1996 and continues uninterrupted today. Starting in 2010, the crop from the youngest vineyards registered to the DOCG grew to a substantial quantity; therefore, in order to avoid changing the character of Castello di Ama Riserva, we decided to begin making a new Chianti Classico. Ama is made almost entirely from new Sangiovese clones planted at 5,300 vines per hectare in the five estate vineyards (Bellavista, La Casuccia, San Lorenzo, Bertinga, and Montebuoni), utilising our lengthy expertise and the most advanced high-quality viticulture practices.

Growing Season Weather Conditions
Frequent rains has characterized first months of 2013. The weather improved during the month of April with a rapid rise in temperature that has led the revival of vegetation. May cold as winter and rainy slowed all the work and the growth of vegetation that has been done about 15 days late. The following months of June and July have been pretty difficult to defend health care: frequent rains and temperatures are not too high. Summer finally came in the second half of July. Hot August days with beautiful light and sun. The first half of September was characterised by sunny days, while the second part of the month the maximum temperatures are lowered, leading to harvest the grapes early.
Vinification and Maturation
750 q. of Sangiovese and 55 q. of Merlot were picked by hand in the beginning of October into small 12kg boxes, then visually inspected on a sorting table, de-stemmed and gently pressed. During the ambient-yeast fermentation, numerous pumpovers were carried out. After another week of maceration on the skins, the wine spontaneously began malolactic fermentation. After assemblage of the final blend, the wine was returned to used barrels for about twelve months.
Appears a lively, dark-ruby flecked red. Classic Chianti Classico di Ama nose, an elegant melding of well-ripened wild red berry with subtle spice. Beautiful integration and balance of all its components, even in its youth, including a crisp and acidity and silky tannins, with a long-lingering, berry-laden finish.
